Central Universities Common Entrance Test (CUCET) upcoming shortly as 1 Exam for 41 Central Universities
- A new attempt for the first time, Students aspiring for admission to UG Courses in the 41 Central Universities have to apply and attend CUCET and rely not only on their 12th Standard marks.
- The Exam dates will be announced by the Ministry of Education by this month end and a 7-member committee is set up by the UGC in December 2020 who have submitted its report.
- The Panel had a challenge with recommendation for a “high quality aptitude test” for admission to UG, PG and Ph.D programmes in the central universities.
- The first CUCET is likely to be conducted by the end of June and the results will be announced in July so that the admission process is not delayed.
- The report suggests that Central Universities Common Entrance Test (CUCET) should be introduced for admission to all courses from the coming academic year and the exam should be conducted twice in a year.
- Further, Amit Khare - secretary for higher education in the ministry had informed that this exam is only for undergraduate courses and this year it will be conducted once.
- CUCET is a part of the New National Education Policy 2020 which states that NTA will ease a single entrance exam for admissions to universities across the country. The challenge is to conduct a high quality aptitude test like the SAT Examination in the US.
- The committee’s report said that a single application form will approve the candidates to apply to multiple central universities including Jawaharlal Nehru University, Banaras Hindu University and Delhi University among others.
- CUCET will be consisting of two parts : PART A and PART B where PART A comprises of the aptitude test of 50 questions such as the
- Reading Comprehension
- Verbal Ability
- Quantitative Reasoning
- Logical and Analytical Reasoning
- General Awareness
- ICT
- PART B will have 50 domain-specific questions.
- The computer-based bilingual (Hindi and English) multiple-choice test will be for three long hours.
- According to the committee’s report, universities require aspirants to score a minimum of 50% in CUCET and the universities will decide whether it is an overall score or to give weightage to the Part A and Part B.
