Salem Polyclinic initially commenced as a surgical nursing home under the stewardship of Dr. K. N. Rao. In appreciation of his service, the general public started fondly calling ‘Salem Polyclinic’as “K N Rao Hospital’.

Obstetrics and Gynaecology department was started a year later by Dr. Padma Rao.

Over the years the hospital has become a multi-specialty tertiary care hospital with 150 beds.

Director. Dr. Rashmi Rao pointed to the facilities available for handling 25 deliveries simultaneously. Of the 500 treated daily as outpatients, nearly 300 are for Gynaecology and pediatrics.
